1. What Is a Mixer Tap?

A mixer tap is a type of faucet that combines hot and cold water before delivering it through the spout. (A faucet that only supplies cold water only is generally referred to as a single cold water tap.)

In general, a mixer tap has two water inlets at the bottom, which are connected to the hot and cold water supply pipes respectively. After the hot and cold water enter the tap, users can control the proportion of hot and cold water through the cartridge connected to the handle. The two water streams are mixed inside the tap, allowing users to achieve the desired water temperature and flow rate.

2. What Are the Common Types of Mixer Taps?
Common types of mixer taps include:

  1. Basin Mixer
  2. Kitchen Mixer
  3. Bathtub Mixer
  4. Shower Mixer

3. What Are the Key Components of a Mixer Tap?

As a sanitary ware importer, it is important not to focus only on the material of the tap body. The quality of the internal components also plays an important role in determining the product's service life and overall performance.

  3.1 Cartridge
The cartridge is the heart of a mixer tap and one of its most important internal components. It controls the ratio of hot and cold water while also regulating the water flow.

  3.2 Tap Body
The tap body is the main pressure-bearing component of the product. For mid- to high-end sanitaryware taps, brass and stainless steel are among the preferred material choices.

  3.3 Aerator
The aerator is installed at the end of the spout. It introduces air into the water stream, making the flow softer and helping to control the flow rate for better water efficiency.

  3.4 Flexible Hoses
Hot and cold water flexible hoses connect the angle valves to the tap and supply water to basin and kitchen mixers. For products designed for long-term use, the quality of the flexible hoses can directly affect the overall reliability and quality of the product.

  3.5 Surface Finish
The surface finish of a tap affects not only its appearance but also its durability and service life.

3.6 Working Water Pressure and Flow Rate
A tap does not necessarily perform consistently under all water pressure conditions. Proper water pressure within the recommended operating range is important to ensure normal and stable operation.

4.What Certifications Are Required for Mixer Taps?

If you are importing mixer taps from overseas suppliers, understanding the applicable certifications and regulatory requirements is an essential part of the purchasing process.
Requirements vary between countries and regions. For example:
• UK market: Requirements such as WRAS may apply.
• Australian market: Certification systems such as WaterMark may apply.
• European market: CE and other applicable regulatory requirements may apply.
• US market: Applicable requirements may include UPC, NSF, and other relevant standards or certifications.
• Different countries may also have requirements relating to materials used in water-contacting components, product performance, and the release or migration of hazardous substances.
Therefore, importers should confirm the specific certification and regulatory requirements of their target market before placing an order.

5. Don't Compare Mixer Taps Based on Price Alone

For sanitaryware importers, a supplier's quoted price does not necessarily represent the final purchasing cost.
A lower-priced tap may appear attractive initially, but if problems occur later—such as water leakage, surface finish deterioration, cartridge failure, missing components, or installation difficulties—the actual cost may become significantly higher. Such issues may also have a negative impact on a brand's reputation.
Therefore, when comparing suppliers, it is recommended to evaluate the following factors comprehensively:
• Tap body material
• Cartridge material and brand
• Surface finish
• Flow rate
• Working water pressure
• Installation specifications
• Accessorie kit
• Certifications
• Packaging
• MOQ
• Lead time
• Warranty
• After-sales service
Where possible, importers can also conduct relevant quality tests, such as coating thickness testing, salt spray testing, flow rate testing, and cartridge life-cycle testing, before placing large orders.
